Sustainable Environment awards

Award categories

The seven award categories, including three new recycling awards are open to individuals, schools, youth groups, community groups and businesses.

General category

1. Individual
Sustainable environment leadership award
Awarded to an individual who has demonstrated leadership in their commitment to care for the environment and implemented active environmental practices to develop a sustainable environment in their community.

2. Sustainable Schools
Sustainable environment achievement award
Awarded to a school or tertiary institution for commitment and practical action to implement sustainable practices and environmental projects that have enhanced the school and/or local community.

3. Youth
Environmental guardians of the future award
Awarded to a group or individual (under 25) for commitment and achievement in developing a sustainable environment in a school, university or community.

4. Sustainable Communities
Sustainable environment achievement award
Awarded to a community group or family who have shown commitment, partnerships and practical action to improve the environment of our neighbourhoods, towns, cities and rural areas.

Special category - Beyond Recycling

5. Schools
Beyond Recycling - waste minimisation award
Awarded to a school or tertiary institution for success in implementing waste minimisation systems or practises to reduce their waste to landfill.

6. Community
Beyond Recycling - waste minimisation award
Awarded to a community group or family for commitment, partnerships and practical action to reduce or reuse waste.

7. Sustainable Business
Beyond Recycling - waste minimisation award
Awarded to an organisation that has demonstrated leadership or innovation in the development and implementation of waste minimisation practices that focus on the reduction or reuse of solid waste.

A project can only be entered into one category.. If you are unsure which category to enter please email the environment awards project leader (environmentawards@arc.govt.nz)
