Innovation plays a particularly important role in driving business growth because most New Zealand firms cannot compete internationally on a cost or scale basis.
Auckland is New Zealand's largest population centre, main international gateway and a major base for the nation's corporate, research and education assets.
Implementing the following five strategies for becoming more economically innovative will enable Auckland to take a leadership role in transforming New Zealand's export and competitive success on the global stage.

5.4.2 Inspire innovation by staging intellectual property showcase events.
5.4.3 Better connect universities, Crown Research Institutes and businesses.
5.4.4 Improve tertiary research funding to support research that can be commercialised.
5.5 Gain more value from offshore networks
