Hunua goat control
Feral goats are controlled in the Hunua Regional Park and in adjacent buffer areas on private land.
Transmittered sentinel or ‘judas' goats are used to locate remaining goat populations. The buffer zone is being extended to the sea on the northern and eastern sides of the Hunua Ranges with the aim of reducing populations to low densities and preventing reinvasion of the park.
Feral goats have either been eradicated from or are not found in other regional parks.
