Auckland Regional Plan: Sediment Control
These include land development for forestry or agricultural use, land contouring for urban development and road works and quarries. Resultant sediment discharge has been identified by the ARC as a major pollutant, by volume, of the waterways of the Auckland Region.
The statutory responsibilities of the Auckland Regional Council (ARC) include the control of the use of land for the purpose of the maintenance and enhancement of the quality of water and ecosystems in water bodies and coastal water, and the control of discharges of contaminants into or onto water.
This regional Plan addresses the issue of sediment discharge, and defines the mechanisms the ARC has chosen for avoiding, mitigating or remedying any adverse effect on the environment due to sediment discharge from bare earth surfaces.
Status
The Sediment Control Plan was notified in September 1993 and became operative in November 2001. A review of this plan has commenced.
