Moorings
Frequently asked questions
How much does it cost to moor within the Auckland region?
The new schedule of fees as adopted per the 2008/09 Annual Plan can be found below:
Can I sub-lease my mooring?
Moorings may be subleased, subject to the ARC's approval. If you have a boat on your mooring that isn't the vessel shown on your mooring account, please get in contact with us at moorings@arc.govt.nz or 09 362 0397.
I have forgotten my mooring number. If I give you my surname or vessel name, can you tell me the number?
Yes. Contact the Harbourmaster's office administrator on 09 362 0397 who will be able to assist you.
I am interested in buying a boat I've seen. Can you tell me who the owner is?
No, this information is confidential. When time permits we can contact the owner on your behalf to determine their interest in selling.
When I buy a mooring, why do I have to pay the ARC a fee?
The mooring holder leases a site, which occupies a space in the Coastal Marine Area (CMA), from the ARC on an annual basis. A fee is charged by the ARC for the administration of that site. The cost will vary according to the sites location - how sheltered the spot is, how deep the water is, how accessible the mooring is, etc. While the site is leased from the ARC, the mooring hardware belongs to, and is the responsibility of, the mooring permit holder.
How often does my mooring need to be inspected?
Every three years. This is outlined in the mooring permit conditions (or earlier if the hardware is showing wear and tear, as indicated by mooring inspector). Six months prior to the due date, we will endeavour to send you a reminder letter, but this is a courtesy service and it is the responsibility of the permit holder to make inspection arrangements.
Why does my mooring need to be inspected?
If you do not have a current inspection certificate, it is possible that in the event of damage to your boat (while on its mooring) your insurance company will not cover you.
Who carries out the mooring inspections?
Details of the approved mooring contractors are noted below - please contact them directly.
| Tidal Engineering | Subritzky Marine Ltd | Hauraki Marine Services | Mermaid Marine (Waiheke Is. Only) |

Can you tell me the date of my last mooring inspection?
Yes. Please contact the Harbourmaster's office administrator on 09 362 0397 or email details to moorings@arc.govt.nz
Can you fax me a copy of my last mooring inspection certificate?
Yes. Please contact the Harbourmaster's office administrator on 09 362 0397 or email details to moorings@arc.govt.nz. Please note, this information is held on file at a location separate to the Harbourmaster's office, therefore there is generally a delay of one day before this information can be accessed.
I want to put a mooring down in an existing management area. What is the procedure?
The number of mooring sites available in a mooring management area is dictated by the Regional Plan: Coastal. Please contact the Harbourmaster's office on 09 362 0397 to determine availability. If able to assist, a permit will be issued for the mooring site. The mooring permit holder then needs to make contact with an approved mooring contractor (refer details listed above) to arrange placement of the appropriate hardware. This is done at the mooring holders expense.
How do I find out what size boat a specific mooring takes?
Please contact the Harbourmaster's office on 09 362 0397 or email details to moorings@arc.govt.nz
I am not sure if I paid my last mooring bill. Can you check for me?
Yes. Please contact the Harbourmaster's office administrator on 09 362 0397 or email details to moorings@arc.govt.nz
When are the annual mooring accounts sent?
The annual mooring accounts are sent around October/November. These accounts are for the billing period 1 July to 30 June.
