Landcare
Landcare
Landcare is about local communities taking action to address an environmental issue in their area. Landcare brings together people who care about their environment and want to understand how it operates so they can help to protect and care for it. Groups are involved in many aspects of sustainable land management. Some of the benefits of Landcare include:
Community Partnerships
Groups aim to encompass everyone in the community. Landcare is inclusive not exclusive.
Community Solutions
A chance to implement best fit solutions that are practicable and achievable.
Sharing Knowledge
It is an opportunity to integrate new ideas and learn from one another.
Landcare Issues
Some of the issues facing Landcare groups include soil erosion, weed and pest management, stream management, litter etc. To combat some of these issues, Landcare groups carry out various activities including:
- community education and liaison
- habitat restoration
- weed management
- pest control
- roadside clean-ups
- fencing and signage
- forest and wetland restoration
- statutory plan and resource consent consultation and submissions.
