Arapawa

The Arapawa

Arapawa (official number 108090) was a single screw steam ship.

Built in Paisley in 1908 by J. Fullerton & Co, she was a steel hulled, schooner-rigged vessel measuring 120 feet in length and 128 tons (registered).

1908 - 1914Initially registered in Wellington before being sold to the Northern Steamship Company and transferred to Auckland in 1914.
1938The Arapawa was withdrawn from service in 1938. 

Disposal

In March 1941 the ship was dismantled, and on 8 April the hulk was dumped on Rangitoto Island.

Today

The remains of the Arapawa have yet to be positively identified amongst the ship remains on the northern side of Rangitoto Island. The vessel was beached at the southeast end of Wreck Bay.
