Park safety information

Driving

Though regional parks may be close to where you live, some locations require driving on windy and/or unsealed roads. If you are not used to this please be extra careful and allow additional time in your travel planning both there and back.

Driving on windy and unsealed roads can made you tired - especially after a day in the fresh air. Be aware and if you feel sleepy pull over safely, take a nap or if possible swap driving duties. Afterall we want you to arrive home with happy memories so you come again.

If you are not used to driving on unsealed roads, remember they can be very narrow. Reduce your speed to below 40-50 km/h to help you to maintain control of your vehicle and slow down even further when approaching oncoming traffic as the dust will obscure your vision.

Take special care when driving downhill and around corners on metal road, slow down and don't brake suddenly.

If you are driving a rental vehicle, remember to check whether you are insured when driving on unsealed roads.

If you are heading home after a long day at a park on the east coast the setting sun can reduce your visibility. Slow down and if necessary wait until the angle has changed. Even better park safely and enjoy the sun set. What a great way to end a visit to a regional park.
