You are welcome to walk your dog through the Gardens. We have an off the lead area at the northern end of the gardens. In the rest of the gardens you must use a lead.

Auckland Botanic Gardens

Auckland Botanic Gardens is home to over 10,000 plants from around the world, spread over 64 hectares in Manurewa, South Auckland. 

Comprehensive collections of ornamental plants have been established to help visitors with selections for their own gardens. The extensive displays of native and introduced plants have attracted international interest.

Visitors may see award winning roses, the spring blossom valley, the rock garden and the New Zealand native plant collection, including threatened native plants.

How to get to Auckland Botanic Gardens

The Auckland Botanic Gardens is situated right next to the Southern Motorway, on Hill road, Manurewa. Travelling south on the Southern Motorway (SH1) - Take the Manurewa/Hill Road exit after Manukau City. Turn left into Hill Road and the main entrance to the Gardens is the first driveway on the left. If travelling north on the Southern Motorway (towards Auckland on SH1), exit the motorway at the Takanini exit, then turn left onto Great South Road and drive towards Manurewa. Turn right at the lights into Alfriston Road. Follow Alfriston Road then turn left at Claude Road and continue until it connects with Hill Road. Turn right onto Hill Road and drive past the traffic lights, the entrance to the Gardens is 100m further on, on the left.

Limited mobility access

Much of the gardens and facilities have limited mobility access.

Limited mobility parking
There are three designated car parks and a drop off area.
Limited mobility vehicles are also permitted to drive around the garden's internal loop road on weekdays. From the loop road many of the lakes and gardens can be seen including the herbs, rock garden, rose garden, native ideas garden, threatened native plants garden and urban trees.

Limited mobility toilets
The visitor centre and library have wheelchair accessible toilets.

The visitor centre facilities, including Cafe Miko, interactive displays, themed plant displays and information services are fully accessible to wheelchairs and mobility scooters via the main entrance. The library is also fully accessible and is open Monday, Wednesday and Saturday 11am to 3pm.

The visitor centre has three wheelchairs, and three mobility scooters available free of charge for use around the gardens.

The Wiri Rambler train runs on Sunday afternoons and by special request. Assistance may be required for those using walking aids to get in and out of the carriages. It is not suitable for wheelchair users.
