Auckland regional freight strategy
A quarter of all New Zealand freight traffic moves within the Auckland region - more than a tonne of freight each day for every household. An efficient freight system is vital for the economic health of both the region and the nation.
The Auckland Regional Freight Strategy balances the need for an efficient freight system to facilitate economic growth with the fundamental requirement that environmental and community impacts are managed to ensure long-term sustainability.
The strategy proposes policies and actions to relieve traffic congestion, encourage rail and sea freight, identify and manage a strategic freight network, develop local area freight management plans and promote a clean, quiet and safe freight system.
