Steven Ames

Steven Ames is a consulting long-range planner and principal of Steven Ames Planning, a Portland, Oregon firm providing long-range and strategic planning services for public agencies and institutions. In this capacity he has advised local, regional, state, provincial and federal governmental units, institutions of higher education, and the courts.

Steven Ames, author of 'A Guide to Community Planning', is recognised nationally and internationally for his work in community and regional visioning. Steven has addressed conferences in Australia and New Zealand on the role of community visioning in building strategic civic vision.

Steven holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Drew University and a Masters Degree in Natural Resources from the University of Michigan. He has also studied with faculty members of the London School of Economics in London, England.

Details of Visit
Steven was invited to Auckland at the time the ARC was beginning work on its Long-Term Council Community Plan to assist in raising the profile of community visioning. A seminar was given to invited guests, mostly local government staff and planners, on Portland and their strategic growth management plan. About 70 in attendance.
