Travel smart

We all hate being stuck in traffic!  Not only is it annoying but it also causes air and stormwater pollution.  We can all do our bit to take pressure off the roading system, reduce congestion and help the environment.  Most car trips are less than 6km long - do you always have to take the car?

Actions you can take

What is the ARC doing?

With assistance from local councils, the ARC sets the way forward for transport in the Auckland region through the Regional Land Transport Strategy.

The ARC's subsidiary, the Auckland Regional Transport Authority (ARTA), gives effect to this strategy by planning and funding public transport services across the region.

Want to do more?

Start a walking school bus at your school. Children walk as a group to and from school with parent volunteers. As well as being healthy, safe and social, walking school buses get more cars off the road.

Contact ARTA's regional school bus co-ordinator on 09 379 4422.

Visit RoadSafe Auckland for further information and to see if your local school has a walking school bus.
