Regional governance
Government's legislative programme
The Government is now undertaking a three stage legislative programme to give effect to its decisions on Auckland's governance.
The Government first passed the Local Government (Tamaki Makaurau Reorganisation) Act 2009 under urgency. The second Bill, the Local Government (Auckland Council) Bill, has been sent to the Auckland Governance Legislation Select Committee. Public submissions on this Bill closed on 26 June 2009.

A third, as yet unnamed Bill is expected to be introduced in October 2009.
Royal Commission on Auckland Governance
The Government responded on 7 April 2009 to the Royal Commission on Auckland Governance's recommendations.
The Government's response is broadly inline with the ARC's submission to the Royal Commission. In that submission, we recommended a single unitary authority including up to 30 community boards.
