Demographic overview of Auckland Region 2006
- The population of Auckland region as at 2006 Census was 1,303,068 people
- The Auckland region is home to one third (32.4%) of the national population
- The region's population has grown by 12.4% since the 2001 Census
- Just over one third (37.0%) of the region's residents were born overseas
- Auckland is characterised by ethnic diversity - in 2006, 11.1% identified as Maori, 14.4% with a Pacific Islands ethnic group, and 18.9% with an Asian ethnic group (not exclusive - people could choose more than one ethnicity).

Auckland region quarterly review
The Quarterly Review is produced by Statistics NZ. It brings together the latest available data on Auckland region from several surveys and data collection sources e.g. Registered Births and Deaths, Household Labour Force Survey and Consumer Price Index Surveys.
It presents covers a variety of information including population counts, estimates and projections, crime, labour force and employment information, as well as other economic indicators.
