Queens Wharf lies at the heart of Auckland's CBD waterfront, and offers a unique vantage point on the city’s waterfront.

The Government and Auckland Regional Council bought the wharf for $40 million in 2009 and took ownership in April 2010.

The redeveloped wharf will be the home of an international cruise ship terminal for Auckland and New Zealand as well as an open space for all to enjoy.  It will also be a temporary ‘fan zone' for fans during the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Queens Wharf design competition and options

In August 2009, the Government, Auckland Regional Council and Auckland City Council launched a design competition to help determine how new facilities on Queens Wharf might look and work for Rugby World Cup 2011 public celebrations and beyond.

The Government and the Auckland Regional Council have agreed to build a temporary ‘cloud’ structure on the western side of the wharf after dismantling cargo shed 11. The other cargo shed, Shed 10, will remain and will be renovated to provided additional covered space for the Rugby World Cup fan zone and offer the cruise ship industry services required to support the upcoming cruise seasons.
