Queens Wharf lies at the heart of Auckland's CBD waterfront.

The Government and Auckland Regional Council announced in May 2009 that they would purchase the wharf for $40 million. The redeveloped wharf will be open for public access and feature a premier cruise ship terminal for Auckland and New Zealand.  It will also be a temporary ‘live site' for fans during the Rugby World Cup 2011.

Queens Wharf Design Competition

The Government, Auckland Regional Council and Auckland City Council have launched a national ideas and design competition to help determine how new facilities on Queens Wharf might look and work for Rugby World Cup 2011 public celebrations and beyond.

The first stage of the open design competition has closed. After thorough evaluation and assessment, five designs have been selected from the 237 entries. The five designs will be developed over the coming weeks, and the winning design will be announced in November. For more information, visit http://www.queenswharf.org.nz/.

ARC Chairman Mike Lee says the competition is a way of ensuring the best design for the development, which is of major importance to Auckland and its waterfront. It also offers all Aucklanders the opportunity to have their ideas considered.
