Taking the project forward

The Wynyard Quarter project will evolve over the next 20 to 25years to fulfill the ultimate vision for this area.

The project will be undertaken in four stages, with the first phase of stage one intended to be complete in time for the Rugby World Cup 2011.  This stage will complete the majority of the Jellicoe Street Wharf Axis in time for the city to host this significant sporting event, including key public open space areas such as Jellicoe Plaza and the North Wharf upgrade.

As the redevelopment of Wynyard Quarter moves forward, the Auckland Regional Council is working with the members of the bulk liquids industry and other stakeholders in relation to the future of the bulk liquids industry.

As part of its preparations towards 2011, Auckland City Council is moving forward with plans for a Marine Events Centre to be located on Halsey Street's extension wharf, at the Viaduct Harbour.

The proposed bridge linking Te Wero Island to the Jellicoe Street Axis has been deferred by Auckland City Council beyond this first phase of development, however a temporary crossing has been proposed to accommodate access to the Wynyard Quarter during the Rugby World Cup.  The permanent Te Wero Bridge is now anticipated to be completed for 2016.
