Forms and fees

Why am I charged an application fee?

We operate a user-pays policy for processing all consent applications. Costs are recovered whether an application is granted or refused. Costs may include:

  • staff time for processing your application
  • staff time for carrying out a site inspection, attending relevant meetings or hearing, and travel time
  • newspaper adverting costs if your application is publicly notified.

When will I be invoiced?

  • Simple applications - one invoice when your application has been processed
  • Larger-scale / multiple applications - you will generally receive interim invoices on a monthly basis.

When applications are lodged they must be accompanied by a deposit fee, which is set to represent the average cost of processing an application.

What can I do to reduce the costs involved?

  • Talk to us before you prepare your application
  • Apply for all required consents at the start
  • Consult all affected parties
  • Obtain written approvals before lodging your application when possible
  • Ensure that all forms are completed, including supporting material
  • If your application is notified, attempt to resolve any submissions.

Are there any ongoing costs?

Yes. The majority of resource consents incur an annual charge, payable by the consent holder, and contribute to the council's cost of monitoring, reporting and management costs.

Who should cheques be made out to?

Auckland Regional Council.
