ALGGi – GIS in the Auckland region

What is ALGGi? 

Auckland Local Government Geographic information (ALGGi) group is a committee of GIS managers of the Auckland region who meet on a monthly basis. It comprises membership from each local authority in the Auckland region and it reports to the Chief Executive Forum of the region as part of a shared services initiative.

The ALGGi group have a strategy in place that encourages joint data capture or purchase, sharing of ideas and skill sets along with keeping up to date with relevant initiatives in the GIS arena.

Members of the ALGGi initiative are:

  • Auckland Regional Council
  • Rodney District Council
  • North Shore City Council
  • Waitakere City Council
  • Auckland City Council
  • Manukau City Council
  • Papakura District Council
  • Franklin District Council

Data Availability

The ALGGi group has some datasets that are available for purchase. Datasets currently available for the region are;

  • Orthophotography
    • 2006 - urban and rural resolution
    • 2008 - urban resolution
  • LiDAR and derivatives
    • Raw LAS files
    • Contours (from 0.5m interval)
    • 2m DEM of the Auckland region

Auckland City Council distributes GIS data on behalf of the eight councils of ALGGi. All data remains copyright of the eight councils of ALGGi and may not be sold or passed on to any third party in any format without prior written permission. A licence agreement must be signed to this effect.

LiDAR Data and the Orthophotography can also be purchased from ALGGi by emailing Auckland City Council Spatial Centre (DigitalData@aucklandcity.govt.nz) for more details, or visiting the Digital GIS data link at Auckland City Council.
