Situations vacant: Camp hosts required to look after popular campgrounds in stunning coastal locations this summer.

In return for keeping an eye on our campers, making sure they settle in and keeping the place in order, you and your family get to wake up in one of Auckland's most spectacular holiday spots each day.

Auckland Regional Council (ARC) is looking for camp hosts for the following regional parks: Whakanewha (Waiheke Island), Waharau (Firth of Thames, near Kaiaua) and Awhitu (near Waiuku). In exchange for a few hours of work a week, camp hosts receive a free campsite for themselves and their immediate family.

The ARC camp host programme runs from 19 December 2009 to 26 January 2010. The minimum stay is 21 days, with a two-day break during that time.

Applications for this year's programme close on Friday 20 November.

"Our camp hosts are an important part of summertime camping in our regional parks," says Senior Ranger Recreation Wayne Carlson.

"During the busy summer months, they help the ranger team by welcoming new campers, issuing permits, keeping the peace and the odd bit of maintenance.

"We're looking for people who are self-motivated, enjoy working with the public and have good communication skills. Camp hosts are often our ‘eyes and ears' on the ground, assisting rangers with day-to-day management of the park, especially in the camping areas.

"This is a great opportunity to do something different this summer with your partner or with the family. There is plenty of time to get out and explore the park, relax on the beach, help out the rangers and make new friends."

If you are interested in applying to become a camp host, phone Wayne Carlson on 09 366 2000 ext 8925 or email wayne.carlson@arc.govt.nz
