It's time to scour the house and garage for hazardous items that are best disposed of through the HazMobile. The collection service will be at Papakura on Saturday before making its way around Auckland in coming months.

The HazMobile is a mobile hazardous waste collection service, which takes place about 15 times a year in the region.

Here are the collection dates and locations for the end of 2009 and early 2010:

  • Papakura: 7 November, public car park, Elliot Street
  • Manukau: 21 November, public car park, Homai Railway Station, corner Dalgety and Browns roads, Manurewa
  • North Shore: 5 December, Hooton car park, Oteha Valley Road, Albany
  • Manukau: 20 February, public car park, Lloyd Elsmore Park, Pakuranga
  • Auckland City: 6 March, Glen Innes Community Centre car park, Line Road.

Using the HazMobile service is easy. Just load up your car or trailer, drive through the site,
and the trained crew will unload your waste for you while you wait. All waste is then disposed
of appropriately.

You are asked to remain in your vehicle. As it is a hazardous site, getting out of your car could put yourself or the crew at risk.

What you can take to the HazMobile

  • waste oil
  • batteries (including car batteries)
  • aerosol cans
  • garden and household chemicals
  • only lead-based or marine anti-fouling paint
  • fluorescent tubes and bulbs.
