Auckland region's economy

Auckland region is by far New Zealand's largest population and economic base, and its major commercial hub, education centre and gateway to the world.

Auckland's economy is diverse, with strong employment concentrations in the marine industry, and the creative, information communication technology and biotechnology sectors.

These high-growth potential sectors are complemented by a strong commercial and financial sector, and a large manufacturing sector.

The Business & Economy publication reports biannually on the Auckland region's economic performance, including employment, earnings, house prices, and GDP.

The Auckland Regional Council (ARC) takes a leadership role in economic development in the region, guided by the vision and framework of the Auckland Regional Economic Development Strategy.

The Auckland Metro Project is currently delivering the vision to lift the region's economic performance so that it becomes an internationally competitive, inclusive and dynamic economy.
