Economic statistics
The Auckland regional economy is estimated to have grown by 3.9% in the March 2008 year compared with a national growth rate of 2.9%.
Economic growth in Auckland is forecast to slow down to 2.3% in the year to March 2009, in line with a national slowdown, and to rise again to 3.8% in the following year.
- In the year to March 2008, an average 68.4% of Auckland's working-age population (persons aged 15 and over) were employed or actively seeking work - a record level.
- Around 45% of jobs in the region are involved in property and business services (17.3%), manufacturing (14.6%), and retail trade (12.3%)
- In the March 2008 quarter, Auckland employees were earning an average of $834 per week, 7.3% more than the national average of $777.
