Nitrogen oxides from vehicles

Nitrogen oxides (NO2) are a product of fuel combustion. Motor vehicles are the main source of nitrogen oxides in Auckland (over 70%).

The charts below show how the concentration of nitrogen dioxide at a site varies at different times of a typical day. NO2 is emitted directly from vehicles or is formed from the oxidation of NO emitted from vehicles.
