Possum control areas
The ARC has undertaken possum control in areas of high conservation value (HCV) across the region.
In addition, Possum control areas (PCA's) have been set up on the Awhitu and South Kaipara peninsulas covering approximately 70,000 ha. Some of the funding for this control will come from a targeted rate on landowners in those areas. PCA areas are chosen where the number of possums is already low due to past control, with the aim of ensuring that populations in these areas remain very low.
Trend monitoring is carried out across the region and in previously controlled areas to indicate where future control is needed.
