Gill Adshead - Manaia Properties Ltd

Rodney landowner Gill Adshead in 2006 embarked on a project to restore an area of native bush on her property which borders the Kaipara Harbour. While the area of land had been fenced previously to keep out livestock, regeneration of the bush was hindered by kikuyu, thick fescue and other weeds, and damaged by pests such as possums.

Family and friends help plant 1,900 native trees

A grant from the Auckland Regional Council's Environmental Initiatives Fund helped pay for bait, traps and weed killer to eliminate weeds and pests from the area. Then Gill along with family and friends planted more than 1,900 native trees in the area.

This project is the first of many planned by Gill, she wants to restore other damaged native bush areas on her property. Many walkers, cyclists and horse riders currently use her property, so as well as providing a safe habitat for birds, Gill wants to make it an enjoyable place for all to visit.
