Rural waste and the environment

• The Auckland Regional Council is responsible for protection of the environment from waste discharges in the rural sector.
• Point-source discharges such as dairy effluent discharge, have the greatest potential to adversely affect our waterways.
• Non point-source discharges (e.g. wastes from rural production, nutrient runoff or sediment control) collectively have the greatest impact on rural water quality in the region.
