Sediment publications, research and newsletters

Sediment control research projects underway

  • Providing the sediment removal efficiency of decanting earth bunds which are short-term measures becoming more prevalent on earthwork sites.
  • In conjunction with NIWA, developing optimal treatment efficiencies for chemical treatments.

Past research available

  • Stabilisation.
  • Effectiveness of mulching Earthworked Surfaces.
  • Modelling effects of muddy water on shellfish.

Environmental monitoring of streams

  • Ecological Health of Auckland Streams.
  • These results have led to recommendations of the implement of Low Impact Designs, and it also showed that the adverse effects due to sediment deposition are long term.
  • Further Sediment Contaminants monitoring click for more info has identified that the southern shore of Waitemata Harbour, Tamaki Estuary and Hobson Bay all have elevated metal concentrations, which are likely to effect the ‘health' of ecological communities.
