Stormwater action plan
The Stormwater Action Plan establishes a stormwater management work programme for the ARC, in cooperation with Territorial Authorities, their Local Network Operators, and Watercare Services Limited.
The Plan states that a new level of effort is required in the following areas:
- Integrated Catchment Management planning to improve the quality and timeliness of these documents
- Source control, controlling contaminants at their source
- Regional communication and community education
- Local authority capacity building
- Alternative sources of funding
Current work programme
The Stormwater Action Team implements the plan through four workstreams:
- Integrated Catchment Management Plans - a holistic approach to manage stormwater and wastewater , identifying the adverse effects of development and assessing the available solutions through a comprehensive planning process.
- Regional Solutions - develops methods to protect the region's streams, estuaries and harbours from stormwater pollution.
- Regional Capacity Building - identifies capability shortfalls across industry and local authorities to implement stormwater solutions.
- Education and Communication - raises awareness and understanding about stormwater pollution and the need to take action.
