The ARC recognises that everyone in the region needs to work together to ensure that our historic heritage treasures are handed on to future generations.

Promoting our heritage

We produce resources for schools, educational posters, postcards and brochures, to promote awareness of Auckland's special historic places, and the issues that influence the conservation of these places.

The ARC heritage department also produces or commissions more specialised reports and publications to assist with the management of historic heritage.

Learning by experience

Auckland's 25 regional parks are great places to learn about the region's heritage. We believe that being able to use and experience heritage places helps people gain a greater appreciation of their values. Many of the heritage buildings in the parks are used for park visitor purposes or community uses, and access to most other historic places in regional parks is unrestricted.

The council encourages partnerships that increase community or iwi involvement in conserving our cultural heritage.

An Environmental Initiatives Fund (EIF) has been established to assist projects that are improving, enhancing or protecting the region's environment. We will also consider providing expertise, and in some cases financial assistance, to assist with the establishment of kaitiakitanga projects by iwi.
