Vaughan Homestead
Vaughan Homestead
It was occupied by the Vaughan family for a period of over 100 years.
The homestead has been added to and altered significantly in the 140 years since it was built. The original two-roomed cottage was extended to the south in 1877. Twenty years later two attic rooms with dormer windows were constructed in the roof, and in the 1940s a two-storied east wing was added.

In 1993 the Torbay Historical Society gained the licence to occupy, restore and manage the homestead. Since then members of the Society have contributed hundreds of hours fundraising and restoring the main part of the building to its 1890 appearance.
There is also a small museum telling the story of the homestead and the restoration project, and talks are also given to groups about local history.
The homestead is available as a venue for weddings, seminars, small functions and general community use, and small functions can be catered for. The homestead can be booked through the society on 09 473 9371.
