Ngapuhi

 

The steamer Ngapuhi (official number 102329) was built in 1900 at Dundee, Scotland, for the Northern Steam Ship Company. The Ngapuhi had a gross tonnage of 691 (703 tons from 1922).

 

1857 Built in 1900 in Dundee, Scotland for the Northern Steam Ship Company.
1930The Ngapuhi was laid up in May 1930, and converted to a hulk.
1941She was moored in Shoal Bay until August 1941, when she was purchased by the Marine Department for dismantling.
1942The Ngapuhi was transferred to the Navy in 1942. Her engines and boiler were earmarked for use in a mine-sweeper, but never installed.
Disposal

Her hull was finally beached on Rangitoto Island on 3 November 1944.

Ngapuhi remains, Wreck Bay

The remains of a twin screw steamer believed to be the Ngapuhi can be found in the intertidal zone at Wreck Bay.
