The steamer Ngapuhi (official number 102329) was built in 1900 at Dundee, Scotland, for the Northern Steam Ship Company. The Ngapuhi had a gross tonnage of 691 (703 tons from 1922).

| 1930 | The Ngapuhi was laid up in May 1930, and converted to a hulk. |
| 1941 | She was moored in Shoal Bay until August 1941, when she was purchased by the Marine Department for dismantling. |
| 1942 | The Ngapuhi was transferred to the Navy in 1942. Her engines and boiler were earmarked for use in a mine-sweeper, but never installed. |
