Hunua Falls
The Hunua Falls are located in the western part of Hunua Ranges Regional Park. The spectacular 30 metre waterfall is part of the Wairoa River which carves through an ancient volcano as it winds its way north through the township of Clevedon, before meeting the Hauraki Gulf.
The falls are a popular destination for sightseers and photographers, while the open grass areas near the carpark provide a picturesque spot for gatherings, picnics and wedding parties. Nearby Kokako Lodge provides overnight accommodation and can be hired for group retreats and outdoor education.
The Hunua Falls arrival area is currently undergoing an upgrade, and whilst works are progressing, the area is still open to the public. The Hunua Ranges track network can be accessed downstream from the Falls via the Cossey Gorge and Massey Tracks – which provide a great loop walk taking in long-range views and impressive native forest. There is also a short walk to a lookout for great views of the Falls.
