Commercial activities
Concessions
A concession is official authorisation to operate on land managed by the Auckland Regional Council, and is required if you wish to guide or escort paying clients onto regional parkland.
Activities that require a concession include:
- tramping
- mountain biking
- sightseeing
- canyoning
- team building activities.
Why do I need a concession?
The primary role of the ARC regional parks is to protect the native forest, coastal areas and wildlife habitats in the Auckland region and provide the people of the Auckland and their visitors' free access to natural countryside settings
Concessions ensure that guided group activity meets the ARC's primary goal of meeting the conservation and recreation needs of the Auckland region.
Concessionaires are required to pay concession fees for the privilege of utilising the regional park network.
Please contact us to apply for a concession.
How do I apply for a concession with the ARC?
- Meet to discuss your proposal.
- Give feedback on timeframes and requirements for your proposal.
- You may require additional consents or notification for submissions.
- Will your activity have adverse affects on the regional parkland and other park users?
The ARC will asses your proposal for environmental social impacts and ensure requisite parties are consulted, we will then advise you of the outcome of your application.
Cost of application is $250 at time of application. Further costs may be incurred for consents or public advertisements if they are required.
Ongoing costs will include a concession fee - a percentage of gross revenue or a per head or per trip charge. This will be discussed with you during the application process.
If you are looking to start up a guiding business, or expand your existing operations, we would like to hear from you - we may be able to provide you with some great natural settings in proximity to Auckland City.

Thank you for visiting the Auckland Regional Council website and giving us your feedback. We are seeking to improve the information and services available on our website in the near future and any feedback you can provide will help us greatly in this process.
