Scandrett

Graham Bach, Scandrett

Graham bach presents a warm and homely atmosphere, beautifully situated on the waterfront with stunning views front and back. Ramped entry is provided at both the front door and to the deck. The open plan design of the kitchen, dining and living room, which opens onto a deck, creates easy circulation space.

The bach sleeps 8 in two double bedrooms and one with two sets of bunk beds. The bathroom is spacious and wheelchair accessible, however the tight right angle turn from the narrow corridor approach to the bathroom could limit access for larger wheelchairs.

Entrances

Entry can be gained from the front door, a second door to the right of the main entrance (side door) and via the doors onto the deck.

Front door: The single leaf of the dual doors is too narrow for wheelchairs so both doors need to be opened. The bolt to release the second door is within easy reach of most wheelchair users. The code control is also set at a reachable height. The height of the upstand is 40mm outside and 50mm inside.

Side door: The width of the door is 670mm. The upstand height is 30mm outside and 40mm inside.

Deck doors: The width of the single leaf is 750mm and the upstand is 20mm.

Door handles overall are predominately knobs rather than lever handles.

Kitchen

The front door opens directly into the kitchen. The bench height is 910mm throughout.

Bedrooms

The double bedroom facing the water (Bedroom 1) does not readily accommodate a wheelchair. The gap between the base of the bed and wall is less than 500mm wide and prevents access to the wardrobe. The door into the bedroom is 750mm wide.

The double bedroom that faces the park (Bedroom 2) readily accommodates a wheelchair with access on both sides of the bed. However, the door into the bedroom is only 710mm wide. The wardrobe is accessible, but the height of the wardrobe rail, at nearly 2 metres could be out of reach for some short people, as well as wheelchair users.

The bedroom with built-in bunks has sufficient space between them to accommodate a wheelchair user. The width of the door is 750mm. An exciting room for a child with a disability!

Route to the bathroom

The corridor from the living area to Bedroom 2 and the bathroom is only 820mm wide. Entry to the bedroom is straight ahead, but to the bathroom is a right angle turn. The bathroom door width is 760mm. For ease of access from a narrow corridor, the bathroom door width should be around 1200mm.  Users of larger wheelchairs may not be able to manoeuvre in this space.

Bathroom

Once inside, the bathroom is very functional for all people with disabilities. The toilet pan height is 440mm.
