Keddle House

Keddle House, located above remote Anawhata Beach is a solar powered bungalow with particular heritage value. It was built by Walter and Sally Parker in the 1930s and still retains many original features of this era. It offers spectacular views of the wild west coast beach from the sunroom, walking tracks down to the beach and other bush walks in the area.

Directions:
Access to Keddle House is through a locked gate at the end of Anawhata Road. There is a relatively steep 500m gravel driveway leading down to the house and a small parking area. The house is accessed via a key pad. Combo lock numbers available from the ARC Contact Centre three days prior to your booking on 09 366 2000 option 2.
Availability:
All year round. The public’s use of this house is shared with the Outdoor Activities Club, therefore availability may be limited at times.

Comments:
The house has 2 bedrooms, kitchen, lounge, sunroom and bathroom.
Bedrooms: Two bedrooms. One with queen bed and one with two sets of bunks.
Bathroom: Shower cubicle with solar shower and basin with cold water. The flush toilet is accessed from the outside at the back of the house.
Kitchen: Gas hot water,fridge/freezer, gas hob and oven, pots/pans, cooking utensils, cutlery and crockery provided.
Power supply: Solar power for lighting, water pump, wastewater system and stove ignition. Do not use power points.
Water: All tap water in the house is drinkable. There is a filter system on the water line, tank supply (Gravity fed roof water). Conserve water as there is a limited water supply. If the house runs out of water, push green button on wall opposite bathroom. Pump will run for 30 mins to fill header tank and will stop automatically. Do not operate this switch unless there is no tap water as the tank will overflow and waste water.
Heating: Flued gas heater in lounge.
Rubbish: There are no rubbish disposal facilities at the house. Please remember to take rubbish home. It is a good idea to think about minimising packaging in advance.
You need to supply: Bed linen, blankets, duvets, sleeping bags, additional pillows, towels, tea towels, food, personal items etc. A torch is recommended for reading at night.

Security:
Theft from vehicles is not common but unfortunately can happen. You should take the same reasonable precautions you take when parking at other locations and remember to lock your vehicle and take your valuables with you.

How to get to Anawhata

From Auckland City, use SH 16 (North West motorway) Exit at Great North Rd. Follow Great North Rd, Ash St, Rata St, Titirangi Rd to Titirangi Village. At the end of the village, go through roundabout on to Scenic Drive. Follow Scenic Drive until the Piha turnoff is reached. Follow Piha Rd until Anawhata Rd (first road on right hand side). Follow Anawhata Rd until the end(Anawhata Rd is gravel and very narrow and winding – please take care).
