Beginning at the Huia Heritage Museum follow this interpretive trail over farmland along the foreshore. The walk links sites of the Manukau Timber Company which logged kauri in the area in the 1890’s and had a busy timber mill operating in Whatipu.

Omanawanui Track

This is one of the most outstanding tracks in the Waitakere Ranges Regional Park. The initial part of the track climbs steadily from the car park to Omanawanui Trig (a 30 minute walk) which provides amazing views of the Manukau Harbour and Tasman Sea.

A loop that starts at the swing bridge over Huia Stream and follows the side stream to a small waterfall. The track ascends to its highest point on Kakamatua Ridge Track then descends to Parau track. From here the walk is downhill to the swing bridge, with an optional detour to the Lower Huia Dam. Wet and muddy in winter.
