Pohutukawa Glade Walk
Path

Not so much a walking track as an experience, this trail provides access to the southern end of Karekare beach. However it is the path beneath the majestic spreading Pohutakawa branches that are the attraction. Not only do they provide shade and shelter from the wind and sun, they seem to extrude an feeling of calmness making the glade a popular spot for relationship ceremonies. The real treasure here is a hidden grassy picnic spot complete with toilet and tables located beside the start of Zion Hill Track.

What to expect:

Paths will:

  • have easy grades, with all-weather surfaces consisting of sealed, concrete or compacted gravel surfaces.
  • be well sign-posted with directional signs at track entrances and junctions and have safety signs where required.

  • have timber boardwalks and bridges over permanent waterways.
  • have seats and viewing platforms at areas of interest.
