Lake Wainamu Track

Walk
Time: 150 minutes

Starting 2 km before Te Henga (Bethells) beach car park this route provides an easy wander along a shallow sandy stream, past towering sand dunes along to Lake Wainamu. Lake Wainamu is a rare impounded lake, formed by sand damming the streams. Te Henga - Bethells

Te Henga or Bethells Beach is another beach in the Waitakere Ranges well worth a visit.
The wild and wonderful Bethells each is a typical west coast, black sand beauty and makes for a spectacular escape.  The surf patrol means you can swim in summer.  Remember to stay between the flags.

Stroll over Erangi Point headland at the northern end of the beach to neighbouring O'Neill Bay.

Lake Wainamu

Lake Wainamu ("mosquito waters") fills a valley dammed by advancing sand dunes which are a dominant feature in the walk to the lake.

To get to Lake Wainamu, follow Bethells Rd and look for the carpark 1km before Bethells Beach.

Please note: Dogs are not permitted at Lake Wainamu.
