Parks conservation and education
Our regional parks are home to many conservation and education initiatives, including our Learning Through Experience programme.
Conservation initiatives
Some of the conservation initiatives taking place on our parks include:
- Ark in the Park at the Waitakere Ranges
- Tawharanui Open Sanctuary
- Shakespear Open Sanctuary
- Kokako and North Island Robin in the Hunua Ranges
- Plant conservation at Auckland Botanic Gardens.
Learning Through Experience
Learning Through Experience (LTE) is a popular curriculum-based programme led by experienced teachers and park rangers. Based in Auckland's regional parks, LTE provides children with hands-on, practical experience, and teachers with a comprehensive range of curriculum resources.
Learning Through Experience offers schools:
- outdoor education programmes
- farming programmes
- discovery walks
- outreach services (ARC come to your school)
- education resources, and
- inspiration!
