Muriwai Surf Lifesaving Club
You would have noticed that the lifeguard tower has now been relocated to the northern overflow, the club still has some work to do on the tower before the summer, like the construction of the staircase and placement of sand ladders.
Weed bins
The first weed bin is in place in the front of the park ranger station and due to the great response we plan on continuing for an additional week. If residents would like information of advice on how to control weeds on their property call into the ranger station or call Chris, Lynn, Duncan or Scott on 09 411 8076.
Gannet track
If you have walked the Gannet Track in the past two weeks you may have noticed a new drain which we are trialling. The drain was designed and constructed by Waimauku Resident, Shane Wright and is intended to try and resolve the silt run off and water damage to the track. The drain is made of fiber-glass which is very durable and originally used in the Hunua Ranges as an innovative fish ladder.
Southern car park reconfiguration
The recent series of storms over the past few months have finally slowed down and hopefully stopped for the season. Because of this no further works have needed to be carried out around the Southern car park. However staff are monitoring the site and will be looking at the area and the requirements with the summer soon approaching.
Flat Rock staircase
Staff are still working with engineers on the designs for the Flat Rock stairs and the staircase at the end of Motutara Road. We realise this is an inconvenience to visitors and locals but strongly recommend that the Maukatai/Maori Bay entrance be used until the structures are replaced.
Motutara/Waitea Road intersection
As part of a project to re-direct visitors into the park, staff have been working on the alignment of Motutara Road and Waitea Road Intersection. The intention is to direct visitors to the Northern car park closer to the surf tower and the patrolled beach. It is recognised that clear directional signage is also required at intersections within the park to inform visitors of significant features and areas of interest. This action is also currently in progress with staff reviewing signage requirements at both Coast Road and Waitea/Motutara Road intersections.
