Volume 1: management policies

Volume 1 management policies consists of 17 parts. You can download the complete draft plan, or in sections.

However, please note that is important that sections of the plan are not read in isolation.  The generic policies outlined in parts 7 – 16 apply across the regional parks network and are not necessarily repeated in the specific park sections. For example, pest control is undertaken in each regional park and may not be listed as specific management action in part 17, as it is covered by the generic biosecurity policy in part 10.

Part 1 outlines the over-arching vision for the regional parks network. Part 2 outlines the purpose and history of the regional parks network and future regional parks. Part 3 sets out the values ascribed to the parks by the people of the Auckland region. Part 4 identifies the challenges and pressure faced by the regional parks network. Part 5 sets out the purpose of the Plan, provides a legislative overview and outlines how to read the plan. Part 6 sets out 19 over-arching management principles for the regional parks network.

Part 7 describes the integrated management framework for the regional parks network, including the park classification system, design principles and research. Part 8 outlines how the regional parks network will be managed sustainably to best practice standards, including climate change, natural hazards and travel management. Part 9 sets out the role of tangata whenua in regional parks. Part 10 sets out policies on managing natural settings on regional parks, from landscape protection and ecosystem restoration to pest control. Part 11 sets out policies on managing cultural heritage values on regional parks. Part 12 sets out policies for managing farmed settings on regional parks.

Part 13 sets out policies for how recreation will be managed on regional parks. It explains which activities are permitted on regional parks, any restrictions that will apply, and techniques for managing and monitoring recreation. Part 14 outlines policies for managing all infrastructure and facilities across the regional parks network, such as the track network, buildings and signs. Part 15 sets out general administration policies. Part 16 outlines how the plan will be implemented, including financial planning, reporting, and variations to the plan.

Part 17 Park specific management

Part 17 sets out the specific management focus for the 23 regional parks covered by this plan, including the policies and programmes that will be completed over the next 10 years.
