Variation 1 to the RPMP 2010

The Auckland Council has reviewed the section of the Regional Parks Management Plan 2010 (RPMP) that relates specifically to the parkland at Waitawa.  The RPMP sets the long term vision, use and management policies for the regional parks network and the parks within it. It contained interim policies for the management of the parkland at Waitawa.

A draft plan for the parkland at Waitawa (as Variation 1 to the Regional Parks Management Plan 2010) was notified for public submissions on 2 October 2010. It contained information on the proposed future use and development of the park, how the council proposes to provide for a range of appropriate recreational uses, and protect and enhance areas of ecological and cultural significance.

We received over 20 written submissions on the draft Variation 1 to the Regional Parks Management Plan from individuals and organisations from across the Auckland region. Eight individuals and 33 organisations attended the Hearing to make oral submissions.  The submissions were heard by a Commissioner. Thanks to all submitters for the time and effort they put in to their submissions.

Following conclusion of the Hearing, the Commissioner entered a process of deliberating on the submissions and evidence received, and the additional information provided. Informed by the submissions, the Commissioner made adecisions on the final content of Variation 1 to the Regional Parks Management Plan 2010.

RPMP 2010 – volume 2: maps

The maps contained in volume 2 illustrate:

• the location of significant natural, cultural heritage, and geological features,
• the location of existing and proposed park infrastructure,
• the location of specific management programmes for each regional park (as described in volume 1, part 17).

Map 17.20 relates to the parkland at Waitawa.  This map will be updated to incorporate Variation 1 and will be available on the internet early in 2011.
