Auckland Council Regional Plan: Coastal

Removal of restricted coastal activities

New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement 2010 Policy 29

On 1 November 2010 the Governor-General, on the recommendation of the Minister of Conservation, approved the New Zealand Coastal Policy Statement 2010 (NZCPS).  The NZCPS took effect on 3 December and replaces the NZCPS 1994.  Policy 29 of the NZCPS states that the Minister of Conservation does not require any activity to be specified as a restricted coastal activity (RCA) in a regional coastal plan. Policy 29 NZCPS directs that authorities amend documents as necessary to give effect to this policy as soon as practicable.

At January 2011 all RCA’s have been removed from the Auckland Regional Plan: Coastal (ARP:C), and all associated consequential minor changes made in accordance with s55 RMA.  As a result any activity previously specified as a discretionary activity and an RCA becomes a discretionary activity only, and any activity previously specified as a non-complying activity and an RCA becomes a non-complying activity only.

Additional to removal of RCA’s, a number of minor corrections have been made to the ARP:C pursuant to clause 16 and 20A First Schedule RMA.

All changes to the ARP:C in regards to the removal of RCA’s and minor corrections can be viewed below.
