State of the Auckland Region Report 2004
The State of the Region Report brings social, economic, cultural and environmental facts together in one place. The report covers a range of issues including transport and travel, employment and education, flora and fauna, air and water.
The Report is split into four main chapters: Our People; The Air and Atmosphere; The Land; and Our Fresh and Coastal Waters. Each chapter covers a range of issues and looks at each in terms of the 'State', which outlines the issue at present; and 'Implications', which discusses why the particular issue is important to the region, and what the potential long-term impacts are if nothing is done.
Five case studies have been included in the report, which look in more detail at specific areas. These include: vehicle emissions testing, the pest plant Mistflower, fish species in Lake Ototoa, farm discharges into streams and waterways, and aquaculture (marine farming) throughout the region.
In addition to discussing each issue in detail, the Report also looks at what the Auckland Regional Council is doing in specific areas to help make the Auckland region a great place to live - now and in the future.
